EVENT INFORMATION

Eckart Preu, Conductor
Roger Wilkie, Violin
Cécilia Tsan, Cello

Marking the beginning of a new era of orchestral music in Long Beach, Maestro Eckart Preu takes the podium for his inaugural concert as the Symphony’s new Music Director in this Opening Night of musical celebration. All of Long Beach and beyond are invited to gather as a community to welcome the new Music Director and to enjoy an unforgettable night of music.

The highlight of the evening will be Brahms’ Double Concerto, performed by two of Long Beach Symphony’s most beloved players, Roger Wilkie and Cécilia Tsan. The piece allows for violin and cello to conduct a dialog, ultimately bursting into a section where both play passionately together. By combining a violin and cello for the solo portions of his final orchestral work, Brahms was able to create an instrument with a sonority and range that neither alone could offer. The concert will close with the most famous waltz ever written, Johann Strauss’ On the Beautiful Blue Danube, in a celebration of what is to come this season.

Arrive early and enjoy a party on the plaza of the Long Beach Performing Arts Center with Maestro Eckart Preu and Mayor Robert Garcia. All concertgoers are welcome and food will be available for purchase before the concert.
