EVENT INFORMATION

Pomona College faculty members Rachel Rudich (flute), Jack Sanders (guitar) and Gayle Blankenburg (piano) offer a program of acclaimed composer and emeritus faculty member, Karl Kohn’s works for flute, guitar and piano.

Rudich, hailed by The New York Times as a "First class flutist...[with] virtuosic technique," joins Sanders, "a highly sensitive, intelligent musician." (Guitar Review, NY) and pianist Gayle Blankenburg, who the Los Angeles Times has written "played with elegant power and poise," in a program of music by award-winning composer Karl Kohn.

Kohn has described his music as being grounded in the American neo-classical tradition of Piston and Fine. From the mid-1950s, until the early 1960s, his music was derived from serial procedures; this practice culminated in the Concerto mutabile (1962). Since then, his music has been remarkable for its chromatic and athematic character combined with chords, figurations and textures evocative of earlier styles.

Kohn's works have been performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Oakland Symphony Orchestra and in concerts and broadcasts throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Free Admission, no tickets | doors open 30 minutes prior to the concert
